In September 2023, Egypt hosted the Annual Meeting of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) in Sharm El-Sheikh, bringing together government leaders, development banks and investors from Asia, Africa and beyond.
The opening ceremony featured President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and AIIB President Jin Liqun. Co-founders Bassel Riad and Ayman Elkasaby attended the sessions on financial markets and financial inclusion, including a panel with Dr. Rania Al-Mashat, Dr. Mohamed Farid and Todd Wilcox, and another with the then Minister of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Maait.
Between sessions, they met Dr. Maait to discuss a financial inclusion project, and spoke with investors, development bankers and founders about using AI and digital platforms to widen access to finance.
